You play as Wilson, an intrepid Gentleman Scientist who has been trapped by a demon and transported to a mysterious wilderness world. Wilson must learn to exploit his environment and its inhabitants if he ever hopes to escape and find his way back home.
(Some people think that the demon is Wilson's dad)
- "I am in an environment much harsher than that to which I am accustomed. Everything here is trying to kill me, or eat me, or… worse. It’s almost as bad as graduate school!
- If I am to survive this place, I fear I must resort to drastic measures. That’s okay, though, for I am a Scientist, and my Science is nothing if not drastic. I think that if I build a wooden effigy of myself, and fill it full of meat, I can create an insurance policy against violent death. It’s a technique that’s well-known amongst the scientific community.
Maybe I should throw in some of my beard hairs as well. It couldn’t hurt!" -Wilson's Field Notes
When the game begins, you awake in the grass to be greeted by Maxwell, a mysterious cigar smoking man in a dapper suit and a boutonnière.. He greets you briefly, telling you "You don't look so good", and that you had "Better find something to eat before night comes!", before briefly disappearing and leaving you to the world... and the world to you.
There are currently six in-game charcters, all of which are unlockable, except Wilson, the main protagonist of the story who begins unlocked.Edit
Wilson P. HiggsburyEdit
Wilson is a scientist, with a curious disposition and a slightly sarcastic sense of humor. He is the default character that every player starts with, and the mascot for the game. Wilson's perk is that he grows a beard, which can be shaved to gain Beard Hair. Beard Hair is a component in the construction of Meat Effigies, which are a one use only way of reviving yourself when you die. Recently, Meat Effigies were made so that each one created, takes 20% of your health, so after making one, maxxing out your health bar will only give you 80HP instead of the normal 100HP.EditWillow
Willow it is the first character unlocked by the player, and she is unlocked at Level 1, with 200XP, which equals 8 days played on a new profile. Willow is a psychotic pyromaniac, and a large amount of her dialog revolves around fire, as does her perks, which are that when in total darkness, a fire starts at her feet, meaning that the Grue cannot kill Willow. Willow is also immune to fire damage. She also starts with a lighter which acts as an infinite torch with a reduced radius. Edit
Wendy is the second character unlocked by the player, she is unlocked at Level 2. Wendy is an extreme nihilist, and most of her dialog centers on imminant death, and the meaninglessness of everything around her. Her perk is that a ghost, (her dead twin, Abigail) appears at night and attacks Hostile Mobs. Abigail can harm Wendy, due to the fact the Abigail is slower, however Abigail does attempt to stay out of the way.EditWolfgang
Wolfgang is the third unlockable character, unlocked at Level 3. It takes 5000XP to unlock Wolfgang, which equals 41 days played on a new Profile. Wolfgang's perk is that he has a larger stomach (hunger buffer) which means he can survive 50% longer when starvation is concerned. He also hits harder, and his melee hits damage more, so Mobs are killed quicker, and his health buffer is larger, by 100%.Edit
WX-78 is the fourth unlockable character, added in the 'Spoilt Rotten' update of 15th January. He is unlocked at Level 4, and takes 8000XP to unlock, which equals 56 days played on a new profile. His perk is that he can eat Spoiling Food with no penalty to health and hunger points restored. WX-78's dialog revolves mainly around his hatred of living beings.Edit
Maxwell: The strange demon like creature who features in several points over the course of the game. He is the tall stranger who talks to the charcter at the beginning of a new game. It is his face that the Metal Potato Thing turns into when the Wooden Thing is activated. He also features in an creepy image, with a zipper for a mouth, with words slowly crossfading in and out of the picture. The words read "Your eyes have lied, I'm afraid they have deceived you, But it's what's inside that counts. The cryptic message refers to the image Insanity, which features a sleeping Wilson surrounded by shadows of unknown monsters. This is most likely a reference to the Sanity update, believed to be the Febuary 12th update. With The Full game realese you are able to play as Maxwell once you save his life in adventure mode.
